KNM (Knowledge of Dutch Society) is one of the six components of the inburgering exam. Learn what the exam covers, then test yourself with 10 practice questions in Dutch, just like the real exam.
KNM (Kennis van de Nederlandse Maatschappij) tests whether you understand how daily life in the Netherlands works, from healthcare to Dutch norms, values, and civic rules. You cannot receive a permanent residence permit or Dutch citizenship without passing it.
45 minutes. 25 multiple choice questions. You need at least 17 correct answers (68%) to pass. Each question has four options, and only one is correct.
In the real exam, questions are spoken aloud as well as shown on screen. Questions and answers are entirely in Dutch, as in this practice exam.
Most non-EU immigrants must pass KNM within 3 years of receiving a residence permit. It is one of six required components of the inburgering programme.
Geert uses Welkom in Nederland (the official KNM study book) alongside practice exercises covering every topic that appears in the exam.
Questions in the real exam, and in the practice exam below, can come from any of these areas.
One question per KNM theme. Multiple choice, four options, one correct answer, just like the real exam. The questions and answers are entirely in Dutch, as they are in the real exam. You get immediate feedback after each answer.
This practice exam is just a taster. In Geert's lessons you cover all KNM themes in depth using Welkom in Nederland, with explanations, vocabulary and plenty of practice. Book a lesson β
